ABOUT
Growing up in San Francisco in an Asian-American family, I experienced life in the “in-between” of two differing cultures and societies. I often reckoned with my Asian-American identity and experience, trying to create a “third” culture that felt encapsulating and real. As a younger kid, I always thought that I was “not like the other boys” at school, and soon identified as gay when I came across the dictionary definition during the birth of Internet Explorer in the 90s. Navigating through my culture and what it means to be an Asian-American therapist has allowed me to develop a nuanced and dynamic understanding of the culture, community, and society that surrounds us.
Throughout my time in San Francisco and New York, I worked in a wide range of creative, business corporate, and freelancing roles. I believe my childhood defining what it means to be Asian-American and queer, my experience working in New York and in the fashion industry, and my time working within community mental health organizations have allowed me to develop a unique, pragmatic, and individualized approach to my work as a therapist that is culturally-competent, creative, while also rooted in real-life experiences. I enjoy incorporating inspiration from my interests, such as books, philosophy, astrology, art, movies, and TV, to help bring therapy to life.
I am a California Board of Behavioral Sciences licensed marriage and family therapist (license number 141752). In addition to my blog, you can also read more about my thoughts and approach on my Medium.
